Intense workouts before bedtime won’t guarantee a good night’s rest, new research shows

A new meta-analysis assessed data from 15 published studies to see how a single session of intense exercise affects young and middle-aged healthy adults in the hours prior to bedtime. And while no two bodies are the same, the researchers did find that the combination of factors would interact to enhance or modulate the effects of exercise on sleep. Source

Potential indicator for obesity risk detected during sleep

Researchers have shown that people with inflexible metabolisms burn less fat at night than those with flexible metabolism. The team measured the respiratory quotient throughout the night and found that despite equal ages, BMIs, and amount of fat, people with inflexible metabolisms burned more carbohydrates and less fat than did people with flexible metabolisms. The higher sleep-time quotient could be a previously unknown indicator for the risk of future metabolic disease. Source
